lost & Found

7 Dec

We’re about half-way there, it’s nearing the end of 2011, AND it’s Christmas time. This has definitely been the busiest year ever, but all in the name of love! Nearing the six-month mark, we pretty much have most of our major vendors booked, and are hoping that in the next few months we will be able to focus solely on our DIY-projects. No procrastinating! As we mentioned before, we are going for a vintage-romantic look for the wedding, and we are hoping that every little piece we bring into our celebration doesn’t go unnoticed. With that said, we have been very detail-oriented as far as planning the decor. This has been the most fun so far!

We’ve been scouring thrift shops and flea markets, and have a great collection already, but for bigger pieces, we considered an alternative to buying and storing in our own home. Big couch in the dining room? No, thank you :P. That’s where Found Vintage Rentals comes in. Located in Fullerton, Found is a rental company that rents everything from vintage glass jars and crates, to old doors, to vintage wingbacks and couches for all events. However, their specialty is weddings and wedding design, and they have been featured over and over in several bridal magazines and blogs. Ozzie and I visited their warehouse a couple months ago, and I swear I wanted to move into it! Either that, or stuff everything in my pocket lol. Check out some of our iphone-ography from our visit 😉

It was very easy to make an appointment to talk about design and to take a glance at their vast collection. Ozzie and I definitely used our meeting as inspiration, and are still in the process of doing our own “finding.” When the time comes, we definitely know who to go to for extras. Here are a few photos of Found’s featured design and collection for you to drool over…

sweet november

11 Nov

A long and wonderful year of laughter, tears, and planning, turned into nothing short of a perfect wedding day at Disney! On November 6, 2011 my best friend got hitched, and it’s a bittersweet November to see it all come and go. It’s been such a blessing to be a part of this wedding, not only because Liss is my best friend, but also because I was also friends with Ray, and was able to be part of and witness their growth from the very beginning. From the moment they got engaged, it’s been a fun rollercoaster of planning. Check out some of the DIY elements of the big day, everything from the place cards, to the programs, to the fun homemade Mickey Mouse cakepops. Days like these are the best 🙂

Weeks before the wedding, here we were embossing away, and testing the Mickey Mouse cakepops 🙂

The Day

November 6, 2011, forecast: rainy. Ahh! Getting ready early in the morning, looking out through the balcony doors at Disney’s Grand California hotel was not easy. It rained all morning! Liss and Ray’s ceremony was set to be outdoors in the Rose Court Garden of the Disney Hotel, but being Disney…there’s always a back-up plan, of course. Although Liss is a lover of the rain, this is not how she imagined her wedding day to turn out. And although almost in tears, Liss’ final decision: the show will go on outdoors. I will say it was a little fun trying to text 120 people to let them know that the ceremony would continue outdoors with the postscript: “please bring your umbrellas.” I loved Liss’ persistence and determination throughout the mornings events, and I’m so proud of her. Even in the last seconds, the poor bride was seen peeking through the hotels curtains, praying for a miracle. In the last 20 minutes before the ceremony, by a miracle of God, the rain stopped and the sun even started to peek through the clouds. I’m getting teary-eyed writing this because it was truly God shining down on Liss and Ray this day, and everything turned out so perfectly. In fact, it was more than a beautiful, crisp, & sweet November day.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Villasin! The fairy tale is yours…

Check out this fun slideshow by Ryan of VISUALPROSPECT. So cute! We might have to use you, Ry! 😉

sunday funday :)

Just wanted to…correction, I just HAD to post a quick blog before work about this video I found! I LOVE love stories, and I especially LOVE when they make me cry. Ozzie knows this and will roll his eyes about how many wedding/engagement videos I watch daily. But I can’t help it…my favorite emotion is the one that can make me cry and cry (happy tears, ok guys?! lol). I especially enjoy how love can bring out the creativity in someone. With that said, check out this suuuuper cute proposal video made by inFocus Cinema, for musician Jason Min’s proposal. He totally wrote this song for her, and I’m so in love with it. Enjoy!

eat, drink, be married.

13 Oct

Ahhh!! The last 2 months have been crazzzzy busy! But it’s definitely keeping us on our toes. In reference to hubby’s last post, I am absolutely blessed to have him as my backbone. He is so involved in the planning process, and it definitely helps to keep me pushing forward. Isn’t he so cute? 😛

So what’s been going on? Well in a nutshell…in the last 3 weeks, I’ve managed to celebrate Ozzie’s birthday, plan a bachelorette party, contact our wedding caterers, and begin the search for our photographer and my wedding dress! Easy, yes? No! In the in-between, I’ve managed to work an extra shift or two at work, and work out with my trainer on my off days. Am I giving myself kudos and a pat on the back? Well as of now while I’m writing this blog, yes I am! We’ll see about tomorrow 😉 .

We’ve got our venues, so now it’s time think: eat, drink, and be merry. I don’t know about most people, but when I go to a wedding, one of the main things I bring back as a memory is the grub…the food…the sustenance! With that said, we really want to treat our guests to some lip-smacking, finger-lickin’ comfort food. Here we go again, trying to get a little creative, while still keeping our budget in mind. We’re not giving away any details on the main fare, but we will say that we’ve narrowed our second caterers down to three different companies, and have already had the opportunity to go to one food tasting. I LOVE food tastings! Compliments to the chef at Contemporary Catering for filling our belly with some gourmet goodness! One tasting down…two more to go!

We’ve got so much to blog about…our DIY projects, our thrift store collection (which is quickly turning our home into an antique junk storage :)), my dress search (I’ve finally begun my search!), and my best friend’s wedding (which is coming up in three weeks)! Let’s go!

hard work pays off

22 Sep

I might get in trouble by Nikki for writing this post, but I felt the need to emphasize my appreciation for all of her hard work and dedication she’s displayed throughout the wedding planning process. Although I think I’m more involved than most guys when it comes to all the particulars, my efforts still cannot match that of my better half. She’s put her excellent organization skills to work and is really making this thing happen. In a short amount of time, we’ve already got our venues booked, our tables and chairs rented, most of our centerpieces, our DJ is booked, and we’re in the process of finalizing details with our caterers and bar tenders.

We both knew that building our dream reception from scratch was going to take a lot of work without a coordinator, but Nikki and I are up for the challenge. OCCCA is an art gallery, which means there is nothing but empty space and white walls. We don’t plan on having the most boring reception you’ve ever been to, so we have to hand-pick every item that will be displayed on our walls, tables, ceiling, etc. This also means that tables, chairs, catering, PA and DJ equipment, lighting, the wait staff, and helping hands to decorate are NOT included. We have to make arrangements to coordinate all these services all while not trying to lose our heads the day before, day of, and day after.

Even though we’ve hit a couple obstacles in our planning, I’m so thankful and blessed to have Nikki. With all of her wedding planning expertise, we’ve been able to find solutions to essentially all of our problems.

The real reason why I’m writing this is because while I’m at the house browsing the internet, she’s hard at work this evening for 12 hours because she picked up an extra shift (she’s a nurse). She and I both know that this wedding thing can deplete a savings account in no time and she’s been making a strong effort to put in overtime at work. She’s also been putting in OT at the gym and in our relationship, all in preparation for the big day. Babe, I love you!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for upcoming posts about more wedding stuff!

june 24, 2012!

13 Sep

Yes, yes…we know. We haven’t posted in a while! But rest assured…we’ve been busy with wedding details, and it’s been so fun and exciting so far. It’s about time we updated you all. We have a date! On June 24, 2012, we will officially be a Mr. and a Mrs. I love June because it’s right after springtime and just before summer, when the weather is not too cold but not yet too hot…maybe a little bit of both, or maybe somewhere in between! Our anniversary falls in June. It’s also right before July (my birthday month). And all the other month’s names are too difficult to pronounce anyway…lol just kidding.

The venue! What about the venue, you ask? We’ve teased you with several wedding venues and we haven’t even told you all which one of them is THE ONE. Well, actually, we have two. We are absolutely in LOVE with these two places. In fact, they were the first two venues we visited in our long search. We’ll give you all a sneak peak, but mind you…we’ll only post a photo or two, just to leave a little element of surprise on the big day!

The Ceremony: Oak Canyon Nature Center

Love, love…LOVE! I always knew I wanted to get married in an outdoor setting surrounded by nature. This venue is located in the quiet Anaheim Hills, and is surrounded by streams and large oak trees. What I love about it is that it’s so green and peaceful…we’ll be entering our marriage surrounded by everything natural and peaceful…so perfect! 🙂

The Reception: Orange County Center for Contemporary Art

Yes, we’re having our reception in an art gallery! We like to think we are a pretty creative pair, and what better way to design our dream wedding than to have a blank canvas to work with. That’s exactly what we’re getting at OCCCA. One of my best memories so far about wedding planning, and I’m sure he won’t admit it, but from the moment we stepped into the art gallery, Ozzie literally fell in love and begged to have our reception here! lol But it was contagious, and I quickly fell in love too. I love the high, wood-beam ceilings and the old brick walls that peak through the walls.

So you see, we have a lot of work to do. Neither one of our venues provide anything but space. That’s the fun part…we have total control. From the size/shape of the table…to the food…to the design of the space…the sky’s the limit, literally. We can decorate however we want to, and believe me…give me the inch, and I’ll take the mile. 🙂 We’re so excited!

What we’ve been up to? The fun wedding planning has already begun, and as I said in the beginning, we’ve been so busy! We’re busy scouring flea markets and thrift stores for everything you can think of, and in fact, we already have a huge collection…everything from old furniture to quaint little vases and jars. Stay tuned! We have LOTS to blog about!

jennie + dustin get married!

1 Sep

Yes, it’s been a minute since our last blog post, but it’s been a busy month for me because one of our good friends just got married! Congratulations, Dustin and Jennie!!

We had to post the details about their wedding because it was beautiful and perfect for the lovely pair. I had the honor of being a part of the wedding party, so I got to see a lot of the details that goes behind the planning, and everything turned out flawless and so smooth. The theme of the wedding was ‘vintage travel’ which I absolutely fell in love with, since day one of the bride’s planning. So details include everything from maps on the invitation to a huge luggage cake…so adorable. The ceremony was held in Long Beach at St. Cornelius Catholic Church and the reception was in Newport Beach at the Turnip Rose. Oz and I had so much fun! 🙂

I can go on and on about all the beautiful details, but I’d rather show you! I think everyone at the wedding would agree that one of the highlights was the awesome same day video edit by the extremely talented Loyd Calomay. This video pretty much sums it up, and I absolutely love this idea, so I wanna share it. Future couples to wed…you are gonna love this!

diy: will you be my…?

17 Aug

Yay for my first DIY wedding project! I thought it’d be fun to officially ask our friends to be a part of our wedding party by sending them a little note. Well, a cute little note turned into a mini scrapbook project (which I love I doing anyway). We used one of my kitchen chalkboards, a little park for the background, and some scrapbooking essentials: eyelets, stamps, and twine, etc. I love the classic “brown paper bag” look, so that’s the paper I decided to use, which goes perfectly well with the vintage/organic look that I’m going for. Check out the pictures below, and if future brides have any questions on how I made these, send me a message!

I love the whimsical look of the banner stamp, so I used the transparent ink, with blue and pink embossing power, and finally the heat embossing tool to create the look below. The photos are mounted to the paper using vintage-patterned tape, found at any local craft store (I bought everything from Michaels). Then two eyelets and some twine, and voila!

My favorite part of these little cards are actually the envelopes! The envelopes are also in “brown paper bag” from Paper Source. We printed the addresses on the envelopes from our own home printer using the Courier New font, which is my favorite font because it mimics the old-fashioned type-writer (notice the names printed in the old instant-label font ;)). The ‘handle with care’ and ‘paper clip’ stamps come from an assortment of Vintage Office rubber stamps. And finally, I LOVE getting personal mail, so we used several different stamps ranging from 0.01 to 0.29 cents, to give it the old postcard feel (my favorite part of the entire envelope).

We hope our friends enjoy receiving this as much as I had fun making them! 🙂

heritage museums

8 Aug

We love the idea of using state parks, museums, or natural/historic centers for our wedding venue because it’s very eco-friendly and green. With that said, any of the above mentioned venues take a portion, if not all of the proceeds and donates it for preservation and/or education, etc. On top of that, all national and state parks, museums, and historic centers are super budget-friendly, just fyi for future brides. 😉 In fact, we looked at two outdoor heritage museums, one being in Orange County, and the other being in greater Los Angeles.

Heritage Museum of Orange County

This museum is located in a quiet pocket in Santa Ana, and is surrounded by lots of trees, perfect for an outdoor ceremony/reception. The site hosts up to 250 people, and what we loved most about this place are the options! Besides having a gorgeous backdrop of trees and historic houses, there are several open garden spaces to choose from whether you choose to have your ceremony under the garden gazebo, or just your reception in the canopied brick patio.

Heritage Square Museum, Los Angeles

If this museum wasn’t so far of a drive for us, it would definitely make my TOP TWO choices for our wedding venues! I absolutely fell in love with this outdoor location. It is very similar to the above mentioned Heritage Museum of Orange County, except the scenery is a little more colorful and vintage-looking. It has all the components I love, including the romantic under-the-trees setting, along with the quirky, colorful vintage backdrop that makes it so much fun. I totally saw a lot of creative potential for this venue, and still keep it in mind. 🙂

Bride World Expo

31 Jul

Today Nikki and I attended our first bridal expo. She thought it would be a good idea for me to tag along and I agreed. There were about 180 vendors total; everything from catering businesses to bridal couture. Since we’ve done a lot of research on our own, we found ourselves skipping quite a few of the vendor booths to spend more time at the places where we still had lots of questions. We spent the most time among florists, wedding gown vendors and unique photography booths (we had our share of food samples too). In all, we thought that the expo was both useful and fun and would definitely recommend both bride and groom attend while in the planning phase for The “Big Day.”

Ps. This was also our first time blogging from a cell phone.
